Managing Stress at Work

Workplace stress is a contributing factor to employee absence, low morale and high staff turnover.  Fortunately, as an employer, there are simple ways to reduce stress at work:

  1.  Review workloads:  Have clear priorities, encourage effective delegation and be realistic about expectations and deadlines.
  2. Encourage breaks:  it may seem counterintuitive when you’re busy, but rest, refreshment and fresh air is vital to keep everyone going.
  3. Consider your environment:  Can you make adjustments to minimise distractions for employees – think about noise or discomfort.  How can you help the team feel more connected or feel more inspired?
  4. One of the best ways to reduce stress at work is to encourage a supportive culture, where people can talk openly and look out for their colleagues. Consider a Mental Health Awareness course for practical tools and advice.
  5. Review training needs:  A skills gap can lead to stress and poor performance.  Investing in your people can improve job satisfaction and productivity.
